Oooh, love this post.
Just wanted to add a couple more:
You can also say someone is loony or belongs in the loony bin (a mental hospital). There’s also the phrase „as crazy as a loon“.
My favorite expressions are „she’s as nutty as a fruitcake“, and „she’s off her rocker“…or to say a person went crazy, you can say „she fell off her rocker“.

A very honest list. Can i just say that I think that some of your dreams have already been realised. The work you have done in teaching your students is fantastic and you, and the work and websites, blogs and so on; are very well respected by students and fellow professionals alike. And don’t worry about what people think of you; it seems to me that everyone loves you as a person and what you do for a living.
